The Dutch international, who joined the Saints in the summer of 2015, was a peripheral figure for much of last season, but Clasie does possess the ability to be a mainstay in the Saints team.
The midfielder who joined the south coast club from Feyenoord two years ago started just 12 times last season.
It is now now or never for the Dutchman who is yet to live up to his surname in a Saints shirt.
