Why Barcelona pulled out of signing Hector Bellerin

Bellerin

You couldn’t blame Arsenal fans for fearing the worst ahead of this summer.
Many Gooners would have been disappointed when Arsene Wenger pledged his future to the club, signing a new two-year contract.
Then there were the doubts over the futures of some of their key players.
Both Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil have just 12 months remaining on their contract with Arsenal running the risk of losing the star duo on a free transfer next summer if they don’t sell them this summer.
But it’s not just Sanchez and Ozil that could leave the Emirates after the club failed to qualify for Champions League football.
The likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Hector Bellerin have both been heavily linked with a move away from the club to Liverpool and Barcelona respectively.
While Oxlade-Chamberlain’s future is looking increasingly in doubt, it seems Bellerin will remain at the club.
Why?

Why Barcelona no longer want Bellerin

Because Barca no longer want him and the reason behind it is a bit of a worry for Arsenal.
According to Spanish outlet Sport, the La Liga giants have given up in their pursuit of Bellerin because they feel his technical ability simply isn’t good enough.
At Barcelona, every player has to be comfortable on the ball to support their possession game. However, after much discussion, they don’t believe Bellerin possesses enough ability on the ball and would be a technical weak-link.

Not only that, but Barca also have reservations over his fitness. The Spaniard has struggled with ankle problems in the past and the Catalan club don’t feel the 22-year-old is worth the risk.
It may be good news that Barcelona no longer want Bellerin but the fact they’ve decided he’s not technically good enough must be a bit of a worry.

Barca still need a right-back

One thing remains, though, Barca still need a right-back.
They failed to replace Dani Alves after the Brazilian left last summer and had to use midfielder Sergi Roberto in that role for the majority of last season.

So, with Bellerin out of the equation, some reports are suggesting they could now go after Chelsea’s Cesar Azpilicueta.
Azpilicueta had a fantastic season helping Chelsea win the Premier League, and COPE are suggesting Barca will do all they can to sign the Spaniard.
